BENDAYÁN: CHRISTIAN BENDAYÁN: UN PINTOR DE LA SELVA [URBANA]

Arequipa, Perú: Centro Cultural Peruano Norteamericano, 2007. b/w, duo tone and color plates, frontis., illus., cat., bios/chrons., illus. endpapers, color pict. fldg. wrps. Item #86133

Young and self taught artist Bendayán (b. Perú 1973) has been for a long time a solitary artist in his native city Iquitos of the Amazonian region. His work openly proposes an interchange of psychic borders juxtaposed between the beautiful and the degenerated, the vulgar and the erudite, the sacred and the profane created with a passion, agony and love, images not often seen among his Peruvians peers. His pop art and hiper realistic paintings deal with themes of the sub-urban culture of neon bars and discotheques, portraying provincial teenagers, transvestites, hairdressers and convicts.
