Three painters who have shaped the 'ruptures' of the 1990's in Costa Rican painting. Included are Adrián Arguedas (b. Costa Rica 1968), Emilia Villegas González (b. Costa Rica 1967), and Joaquín Rodríguez del Paso (b. Costa Rica 1961). Arguedas overlaps time and space in his representations. Villegas seeks to make the painting more transparent with less anthropological consideration. Rodríguez del Paso prioritizes the problem of representation in modern painting.
