The "Tower Avianca" is the office building of the Colombian airline Avianca. It was the first skyscraper of Bogota and was and still is considered the precursor of these type of buildings in Colombia. Its design and construction were awarded to the architectural firm Esguerra Sáenz, Urdaneta, Samper y Cía., Ricaurte Carrizosa Pietro and the Italian Domenico Parma, considered the most recognized architects firms at the time. The innovative and complex design and construction of the building lasted six years. Inaugurated in 1969, it was the tallest 40-floor skyscraper in South America. The present book is an historic and comprehensive testimony of the fervor business adventure of Juan Pablo Ortega, President of Avianca as well as from "the extensive interdisciplinary team attached to it. Designing and constructing this building not only implied to manage a project of high complexity; I also meant to carry out important technical experiments, pioneers in regards to the construction of elevated on concrete structures and commitment to them with earthquake resistant aspects in our country" (Our translation) --Verso cover.
