This book is the first in a series of volumes containing the testimonies of residents located on the edge of the Inca trail along Peru, who give live testimony on what is now Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity: their art, oral traditions, festivals, music, dances, cuisine, and traditional medicine. This initial volume is the outcome of the efforts of a group of anthropologists lead by Paola Borja working in what was then known as the INC (National Institute of Culture), and now the Ministry of Culture, travelling across the country for 5 years (2003 to 2007), throughout much of the coast and mountains of Peru. The voices they collected represent a vigorous testimony to the richness of the different cultural traditions that make up this nation.
