For many years the society of Medellín used to have in their house a photographic portrait by Foto Mejía, a studio managed by Francisco Mejía (b. Colombia 1899 - 1979) a pioneer in the technique of oil illumination used in postcards and retouched portraits, skillfully using artificial and natural light. These images produced from the 1930's to the 1960's were common household items of sacred characteristics. For the past decades these commercial images have been neglected and ultimately forgotten. "With the present exhibition, Banco de la República and the Fundación Antioqueña para los Estudios Sociales, FAES, wish to highlight and promote this aspect of his [Francisco Mejia's] work ... a special memory"--P. 5. Text by Carlos José Restrepo.
