The frame work of inSite_05 entails four programmatic components: (1) Interventions, 25 artists' projects in the public domains of San Diego/Tijuana; (2) Scenarios, time-based cultural practices that transcend material space; (3) Conversations, on on-going series of dialogues, workshops, public programs and publications; and (4) Museum Exhibition, which will create a web of urban narratives, weaving together the work of contemporary artists, documentary material and cultural products. Envisioned as working sessions centered on subjects pertinent to the geopolitical terrain of San Diego/Tijuana, "Conversations" have been conceived to rethink issues of local importance within a broader frame. Inquiries presented in "Liminal Zones / Coursing Flows" investigate tactics of participation, while "Aliens, Denizens, Cosmopolitans" scrutinizes the implications of representing the concept "foreignness" and being at home, although both vectors was intended to locate points of leverage in the workings of urban life. While the this 2003 program suggested several trajectories of inquiry, the robust discussion that unfolded were propelled above all by the divergent vantage points and firm reasoned convictions of the protagonists.
