Second edition of the 1996 Prize awarded to three of the most outstanding contemporary painters of Uruguay : Manuel Pailos (1914), a disciple of Joaquín Torres-García; Maria Freyre (1917) formed under Pedro Costigliolo and follower of Cuneo, Laborde and Torres-García geometric abstraction and Nelson Ramos (1932) with his installations of white and black symbols and signs.
