The authors review how late 19th century cultural and artistic phenomena affected the 20th century modernist style of the architecture of the city of Guadalajara (Mexico), analyzing the importance of the French and Catalan artistic influence as well as the Italian and Cuban manifestations still present in remaining period buildings, while also creating a cultural relationship between the architectonic and the literary modernistic production.
