FIRST REPRINT OF anthropological study on the architectural and urban history of the colonial city of Santa Fe. The colonial city was founded in 1573 and abandoned in 1660, when the population moved 78 kilometers to the south as the result of constant invasions by Paraguayan Indians, floods and mountain erosion. The author explains that the city was a strategic instrument of the Spanish invasion over America and that the real construction of the urban space is a constant interaction between the social and urban structures "That is why the use of urban land and the conformation of the city structure, the architectonic types and the construction traditions, the public spaces and the real estate dynamics, cannot be explained independently to the historic, social and economic processes, of the everyday customs and the life of the institutions."
