A selection of 40 contemporary artists from Chile The author, a contemporary art historian, was voted the highest honors as a professor in 1991 at PUC.She aslo has been a director and curator for some of the finest contemporary art galleries in Chile. In her words the criterion : "In our time we are witnesses to different parallel trends in the plastic arts that sometimes coexist fully independent of each other in formal and conceptural terms...In this case I have intentionally attempted to leave aside all works that do not use painting as their means of expression. Out of these, I chose a reduced number of painters in order to show the largest possible numbers of works characterizing the ones selected. Her analysis of "being Latin American" and the indivualized analysis and descriptions make this one of great recent contributions to the literature.
