Project proposed by artist Raymundo Sesma, for the Tecali, Puebla, south of Mexico city in 1997. The idea was simple. Mexico has a huge artisan tradition, but how can new things be created? How to move beyond that same tradition? Tecali is a town centered on onyx craftsmanship and the traditonal talavera painted majolica or pottery. Over 800 artists and architects from around the world have participated in this project creating new art from traditional sources. Some of the artists participating in this project include: Raymundo Sesman, Jan Hendrix, Carlos Luna, Gustavo Pérez, Luis Miguel Suro, Roberto Turnbull, Gerardo Zarr, Ragazzoni, Ana Rita Lascuráin, Alessandro Mendini, Keizo Matsui. Advento is a philanthropic project focused on social, cultural, aesthetics and ecological issues aimed to bridge the gap between the more developed and less fortunate sectors . It creates programs which include field diagnosis; promotion and ciruclation; employment and qualification of manual work; training, techincal support for production and appraisal for the cultural identity of the product. It provides experts in environmental and ecological design, craft design, art, interior and exterior design; landscape design, architecture, contemporary art curatorship and museum management.
