This monumental edition by renown historian Bonet Correa dedicated to Monasteries is the second book of the trilogy studies on religious constructions in Latin America, along with a book dedicated to Cathedrals and one dedicated to "The Company of Jesus Order" settlements. The author emphases the importance of the missionary participation in the conquest of the newly discovered world and states that the monasteries constructed in the Spanish and Portuguese territories during the colony were living and praying sanctuaries of the different orders as well as educational centers where the native Indians were educated intellectually and spiritually to fit the new culture.
