With a population of more than 130,000 and divided in 16 communities, Maré is the major complex of shantytowns of Rio de Janeiro. This book plunges into its sometimes projected and sometimes spontaneous architecture, its side streets and alleys, and portraits the daily lives and expectations of the members of the Dance Group of Mare and the way the fight against all odds submerged in the poverty and violence of the favela (shantytown).
