Item #45871

Rare early 20th century periodical with stunning illustrated covers, illustrations and vignettes. Appears to be a complete set. In March 1921 a text appeared in the Bulletin of UNAM announcing "the foundation of a great magazine: El Maestro", whose function was to complete the work of the university and school establishments, expand the horizons of workers and peasants, stimulate the study of professionals and schoolchildren, and animate with practical suggestions the industrialists and exploiters of the land. In short, a publication was presented that synthesized the training project of the then rector José Vasconcelos: to outline the route that the country's progress should take. In the words of Francisco Monterde, the magazine appeared at the moment of greatest impulse given until then to public education. With El Maestro, Vasconcelos presented the educator "his aspect of greater importance". ( Francisco Monterde, Las revistas literarias de México, México, D. F., Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes/ Departamento de Literatura/ Secretaría de Educación Pública, 1963, p. 124). SOLD AS A SET.
