Published on the occasion of the exhibition held from December 11,.2021 - April 30,.2022 at the Museo Tamayo, Mexico City, Mexico. Organized in a three-volume set, 'Tamayo: 40 Years' is the editorial project that commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Tamayo Museum. The 3 volumes account for the 4 decades of institutional history of the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City, from its original planning and inauguration (1979), to its current activities (2021). The first volume consists of the catalogue of the exhibition Beyond the Trees and traces the historical, political and cultural events that marked the years that include the construction and opening of the Museum (1979 -1981). The curatorship was in charge of Magalí Arriola, Humberto Moro, Juan Carlos Pereda, Andrea Valencia and Andrés Valtierra. The text revolves around the homonymous work by the artist Erick Meyenberg, commissioned by the museum as part of the celebrations and which focuses on the opening ceremony and recounts the relationship of the enclosure with television, on the occasion of the period in which Televisa (1981-1986) administered the museum. The second volume, "Alligators in the Pond: The origins of the Tamayo Museum in the voice of its protagonists", comprises interviews with its main actors, accompanied by an unprecedented selection of archival material. The third volume, "Another Long Tale with Many Knots" is a first attempt to draw an account of the exhibitions that have occupied the spaces of the MT in over four decades. ALSO AVAILABLE IN SPANISH.
