Buenos Aires: MALBA, 2020. b/w and color plates, color pict. wrps. Item #114967
The legacy of the personal archive of Remedios Varo. The catalog was edited to accompany the first anthological exhibition of Remedios Varo in Argentina held in Malba between March 6 and June 15, 2020. It reproduces the main works of the exhibition dated between 1938 and 1963 and focused on the production of the artist during her exile in Mexico, beginning in 1942. The publication opens an essay specially commissioned to the philologist Victoria Cirlot, a specialist in medieval culture and literature, which traces Varo's relationship with the surrealist tradition and delves into his spiritual world to bring it closer to the mysticism of Hildegard von Bingen. It is followed by texts by the two curators –Victoria Giraudo, Malba's Chief Curator, and Carlos Molina, Chief Curator of the Museum of Modern Art of Mexico– who give an account of the main lines of approach to the exhibition.
