First volume of a projected series of books that study the diverse ways of visualizing the religious and social phenomena, facts and people, in particular during the period of the Spanish administration of the territory of the State of Michoacan. The descriptive and illustrated catalogue of the colonial paintings housed in the former Convent of San Agustín and the Conservatorio de las Rosas is an inventory of a total of 100 colonial paintings spanning from the 16th to the 19th century catalogued by a group of researchers from the Seminario Permanente de los Estudios de Pintura de Occidente de México, coordinated by Nelly Sigaut, an academic of El Colegio de Michoacán (COLMICH). Researchers included the participation of: Guadalupe Anaya Ramírez, Hugo Armando Félix Rocha, Mónica Ortiz, Pedro Servín Guzmán y Sofía Vergara. "It is anticipated that the complete collection will comprise 3 more volumes if we can have interests and wills committed, as editorial dreams sometimes are more fragile still than those personal. It is important to inform that one of those failures to meet up were strong determinations; the model followed in this publication originally was going to be dedicated exclusively to the study of the paintings of the temple and Convent of San Agustin in the city of Morelia. The religious complex restored by the program "Adopte una Obra, A.C." that had been catalogued by me for CONACULTA in 1993." (Our translation)--P. 13.
