The present book is the outcome of the research and conservation project on the historic photography of Cusco and comprises the work of some of the most representative photographers of the region: Pablo Veramendi, Juan Manuel Figueroa, Horacio Ochoa, José Gabriel González, César Meza and brothers Cabrera, amongst others whom constituted the intellectual and artistic movement of the "Cusco School of Photography", as defined by historian Pablo Macera. The 74 photographs in the book reflect the social sense of the early 20th century that represents the specific relationships and characteristic context of the Cusco society and of the Andean world. They represent a brief sample of more than 33,500 photographs taken between 1870 and 1960 in the Cusco region and now part of the holdings of the Fototeca Andina of the Centro Bartolomé de las Casas.
