Scarce catalogue on work of Basaldua who is most recognized for his art and set design. He studied as a child with the Italian painter Bolognini and entered the National Academy of Fine Arts. Thanks to an acknowledgment from the government of the province of Buenos Aires he travels to Italy to attend the Colarossi Academy run by the famous Charles Guerin, in that establishment he had art teachers like André Lhote and Otton Friesz among others. Soon he began to travel through Europe where he met Aquiles Badi and together they formed the group of painters who participated in the Salón de los Independientes de París. He won the First Prize of Scenography of the Commission of Culture, Great Prize of Painting, Great Prize of Scenography in the International Exhibition of Paris and First Prize in the Hall of Rosary. In 1938: obtains the scholarship of the Commission of Culture to perfect his knowledge of theatrical technique in Germany, France and Italy and published his first book "Escenografías de Héctor Basaldúa". In 1958 he was appointed Director of the National Fund for the Arts. His works appear in the main Argentine and foreign museums such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Brooklyn Museum in New York, among others.
