Reprint of the classic 1973 edition by art critic Traba (b. Argentina 1923 - d. Paris 1983), a key figure in the consolidation of international modernism in the visual arts of Latin America. Her writings addressing many pivotal cultural events from the 1950s through the 1970s expressed her aesthetic theories regarding the effects of globalization demands and the cultural imperialism of the North in Latin American art. Traba was among the first scholars to consider the art of Latin America as a whole, highlighting certain regional topics, techniques and procedures: drawing and engraving, subtle eroticism and anti-pornography, poster and "valla" art particularly the Cuban case and the nationalization of Pop art.
