Presentation of late 18th 19th century art and architecture of the Missão Artística Francesa (French Artistic Mission) while in Brazil. The Missão Artística Francesa was invited to Brazil by the Portuguese court in 1816 at the time Brazil was moving from a colony to an empire. Led by Joachin Lebreton, a group of artists, architects, sculptors such as Jean -Baptiste Debret, Nicolas Antoine Taunay, August Marie Taunay, Marc and Zepherin Ferrez and the architect Grandjean de Montigny, would leave a permanent stamp on Brazilian culture. The book is almost equally divided between art and architecture.
