Beatifully illustrated and documented history of the building and collection of the Museo Nacional de Arte (MUNAL) in downtown Mexico city. The neoclassical style building was built as the Ministry of Communications during Porfirio Diaz regime by Italian architect Silvio Contri and today holds the original collection from the former Real Academia de San Carlos, school to many Mexican plastic artists from colonial times up to the muralist movement in the 20th century. The permanent collection includes masterpieces by Luis Lagarto, Baltasar de Echave, Jose Juárez, Nicolás Correa, Miguel Cabrera, Eugenio Landesio, Hermenegildo Bustos, José Maria Velasco, Jose Guadalupe Posada, Joaquín Clausell, Dr. Atl, David Alfaro Siquiros and José Clemente Orozco.
