Curator and art historian, Cacilda Teixeira da Costa, presents works created during the early years of the military dictatorship in Brazil 1963-1968, a time when Pop Art emerged and became a worldwide hit. The period is represented by 4 leading artists: Waldemar Cordeiro (b. Brazil 1925, d. 1973), Antonio Dias (b. Brazil 1944), Wesley Duke Lee (b. Brazil 1931), and Nelson Leirner (b. Brazil 1932). Pop art grew out of the Concrete movement in Brazil (especially Cordeiro's semantic concrete art)and the New Figuration movement.
