Exhibition catalogue of 51 works executed by painter, poet and theoretician, Elizam Escobar (b. Puerto Rico, 1948). Show is divided chronologically, though not thematically. 32 paintings emcompass his most recent production, created after his release from federal prison and works that have not been seen by the public. His present thematic interests involve the dynamics of communication between people. He received degrees in Fine Arts at the University of Puerto Rico and CUNY and formed part of the faculty of the Museo del Barrio School of art. In 1980 he was arrested and accused of being a member of the clandestine Puerto Rican movement struggling for independence and was subsequently sentenced to 68 years in prison. During his 19 years and 5 months of prison, he continued painting and writing. Upon his release in 1999 he returned to Puerto Rico to live and work. Texts by Elizam Escobar, Marilķ Pursell, Francisco, J. Ramos and Lucy R. Lippard. ENGLISH AND SPANISH TEXT.
