Known as "El Chango," ("the monkey"), García Cabral was for several decades one of Mexico's premiere political cartoonists and caricaturists. Born in 1890, he studied art at Mexico's San Carlos Academy, began doing commercial work at the outset of the Mexican Revolution in 1910, and spent the WWI years in Europe, furthering his studies and making a name for himself as a cartoonist. He returned to Mexico in 1918 and soon emerged as one the country's best-known commercial artists, illustrating covers for such national magazines as Revista de Revistas and Siempre. He also designed and illustrated hundreds of movie posters during the 1940s and 1950s and did work in book illustration. García Cabral died in 1968.
