FIRST EDITION, LIMITED TO 750 COPIES. Kubler's first published book, completed shortly after beginning his teaching career at Yale in 1938, and still regarded as one of the most important works on the subject. It is the first work in which the monuments are analyzed and classified according to their architectural aspect alone, examining in detail the emplacement, materials, structure, and decoration of these churches.
