The value of this publication is illustrated by the importance of the source materials and the erudition of the participating contributors. The NOTICIA was the most extensive account of Lower California in this period, with the first two volumes devoted to that area. About the third volume, Cowan states: "Other than Cabrera, Burriel was the first writer whose sound sense allowed him to reject the apocryphal voyages as unworthy of credit, restricting northern geography, which comprises one of the volumes, to actual discoveries, and to correctly define in print the peninsula of California and the regions of the Colorado and Gila as far as known." Cowan considers the NOTICIA to be a cornerstone of a library collection in Californiana. Padre Andrés Marcos Burriel, editor of the NOTICIA, had revised the original text and updated it to 1750. EL APOSTOL MARIANO was written by Padre Venegas about the Conquistador Apostólico of the Californias. The EMPRESAS APOSTOLICOS is a most important document for studies of the Apostolic enterprises during the conquest of California. LIMITED EDITION OF 1000.
